WHAT IS IT?

Now is the time to try your hand at writing a story. Let's release all those creative talents and realise all those latent ambitions. The current lockdown places a challenge on us all and the competition is an opportunity to switch off from current restrictions. The topic of your story is your choice, the only rule is that your story may not mention the Coronavirus, or any apocalyptic situation.

WHO CAN ENTER?

This is a competition for everyone who lives in Speen and North Dean with one entry per person allowed.

There are two age groups:

Anne Frank Group is from 12 to 16 years of age

Charles Dickens Group is 17 years and over.

HOW LONG HAVE I GOT TO WRITE MY STORY?

You may start now. The deadline is 6.00pm on the 24th April

HOW LONG SHOULD MY STORY BE?

Each group will have a different maximum length.

1000 words maximum for the Anne Frank group and 2000 words maximum for the Charles Dickens group.

HOW WILL MY STORY BE JUDGED?

The winning stories are likely to be engaging and imaginative. Correct grammar will improve your chances of success.

HOW DO I ENTER?

Please submit your story in Word document, PDF or rtf format:

Ready, Steady, Write

 

What do I do?

It's super simple. Write a fictional short story and ask an adult to submit it online. It can be about ANYTHING you want - outer space, magic, dinosaurs, creepy crawlies, time travel. You can write about anything other than the Corona virus.

Who can enter?

Entry will be in two age categories:

- Beatrix Potter Group for ages 5 to 7 years - Harry Potter Group for ages 8 to 11 years You can only submit one entry.

How long have I got to write my story?

You may start now. The deadline is 6.00pm on the 24th April

How will my story be judged?

Entries will be judged on the following criteria:

- It must be your own work

- What happens in the story

- How you describe the characters in the story

- How you use words and sentences to tell your story

- Above all, how enjoyable your story is

Try to get your punctuation, spelling and grammar right, but you will not be marked down for mistakes as the flow of the story is important.

How long should my story be?

Beatrix Potter Group no more than 300 words.

Harry Potter Group no more than 500 words.
